Quiet Intervals

There is something about working in silence in an autumn meadow that is nearly indescribable.

For our Sketching in Silence event last month, local artist Joan Hanley guided the group through a series of short exercises, asking everyone to look closely and trust what came through their hands.

I moved quietly among them, keeping time and taking photographs, while the meadow carried on around us. A chair in the grass. Paper on a board. A few materials. Two minutes at a time. Sketching quietly and thoughtfully.

Joan gave just enough direction to begin, then enough space for everyone to find their own way. Somewhere in those dreamy intervals, I realized Tahilla Gatherings had become exactly what I had hoped it might be: a place to gather, create, and experience the land in a different way.

Thank you, Joan @hanleystudio, for making the day so special, and to our guests for entering into it so fully.
